Opening Prayer
Lord, I stand before You seeking The Cure of the Soul to help me approach the mystery of repentance with absolute liturgical clarity and depth. Guard me against the danger of vague and routine confessions that merely skim the surface of my conduct without addressing the root causes of my errors. Grant me the discernment to see my sins for what they truly are—a kind of madness that estranges the spirit from the Supreme Goodness.
I petition for the grace to be ruthless about rooting out my sins, refusing to conceal any attachment to evil within the secret corners of my heart. Help me to identify the subtle inclinations toward spiritual negligence so that I may repent immediately and effectively before my moral life collapses. Let my examination of conscience today be a weapon of spiritual warfare, clearing the way for Your grace to operate fully in my professional and private life.

Matthew 15:1-2, 10-20
1Then came to him from Jerusalem scribes and Pharisees, saying: 2Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the ancients? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
10And having called together the multitudes unto him, he said to them: Hear ye and understand. 11Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but what cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. 12Then came his disciples, and said to him: Dost thou know that the Pharisees, when they heard this word, were scandalized? 13But he answering them, said: Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. 14Let them alone: they are blind, and leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit. 15And Peter answering, said to him: Expound to us this parable. 16But he said: Are you also yet without understanding? 17Do you not understand, that whatsoever entereth into the mouth, goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the privy? 18But the things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and those things defile a man. 19For from the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies. 20These are the things that defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands doth not defile a man.
St. John Vianney
St. John Vianney, the “Curé of Ars“, evaluates the “spirit of the world” versus the “spirit of Jesus”. Vianney lived this clinic reality, spending 16 hours a day in the confessional. He differentiates “soft words of encouragement” from the “fire of reproof”. The Gospel reminds us that “out of the heart come evil thoughts”—the very things Vianney sought to root out. We often worry about external defilement while our interior mansion is in dust and disarray. The spiritual paper cuts of gossip and “useless chatter” were Vianney’s enemies. He reminds us that spiritual negligence leads to moral collapse. We must work for the salvation of souls starting with our own.
Vianney recognized God’s Word as an “excellent surgery” for a soul diseased by error. This medicine, proceeding from heaven rather than the earth, never loses its potency over time and never fails to overcome spiritual maladies when dispensed by a faithful preacher. The only requirement for this divine healing is a heart that approaches the clinic of the Church with sincerity and humility.

Mary and the Magisterium
The dignity of the priesthood is found in the “surgery for souls” performed in the clinic of the Church. Mary stands as the Mediatrix and Nursing Mother of this clinic, interceding for the success of every spiritual operation.
