Opening Prayer
O most compassionate Mother, I remind thee of the “immense bitterness” that filled thy heart as thou didst receive the lacerated body of thy Son. Every blow of the hammer that struck thy Son now echoes with excruciating clarity in my own heart. I behold Him in thy arms, covered in blood and wounds for my sake.
Following the wisdom of Ven. Martin von Cochem, I offer this sacred, wounded body to the Heavenly Father. Take my poor soul into thy hands and present it to thy Divine Son, cleansed by thy tears and the Precious Blood that bedewed His form.

Isaiah 53:4–5
4Surely he hath borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows: and we have thought him as it were a leper, and as one struck by God and afflicted. 5But he was wounded for our iniquities, he was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.
Blessed Virgin Mary
The “Pietà” is a scene of “inexpressible anguish.” Mary presses the lifeless body to her heart, covering Him with “tenderest kisses” and “bedewing Him with a stream of burning tears.” The source describes a nature—undisturbed by sin—possessing a tenderness susceptible to suffering in an “inexpressibly high degree.” She looks upon that Divine countenance, so disfigured she could scarcely recognize it, yet she rests her agonizing heart upon His wounded brow.
Ven. Martin von Cochem instructs the believer to spiritually “offer the wounded body of Jesus to the Father” by the hands of Mary. This is an “infallible means” of atonement. By taking the mangled and dead body into our own spiritual arms, we use Mary’s “painful compassion” to obtain mercy and pardon for our specific sins, asking her to “cleanse our soul with her tears.”

Mary and the Magisterium
The “Seven Promises” revealed to St. Bridget for those who meditate on Mary’s tears include specific temporal and spiritual protections. Notably, she promises to “grant peace to their families,” to “defend them in their spiritual battles,” and most significantly, the seventh promise: that they will be “taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness.” This confirms that devotion to her tears is a practical weapon and a sure path to salvation.
